Nina Postupack, Ulster County Clerk, Welcomes the Red Feather Singers & Drummers to the Matthewis Persen House Museum
Kingston, NY - Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is pleased to announce that on Saturday, September 3, the Red Feather Singers and Drummers, members of the Association of Native Americans (ANA) of the Mid-Hudson Valley, will host at the Matthewis Persen House located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corner of John and Crown Streets. Admission is free and all are welcome.
On Saturday, September 3 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, join the Red Feather Singers and Drummers for a day of Native American drumming, crafts and artifacts. On display, Susan Singing Rain and Grandmother Judith Laughing Owl will have some Native artifacts and handmade bark baskets and will explain their significance. Susan Singing Rain and Judy Floating Butterfly will assist children in making beaded friendship bracelets and coloring hand-held fans with Native symbols. Grandmother Judith Laughing Owl will teach Native American drumming on a drop-in basis.
“The Red Feather group has become an annual staple at the Persen House,” stated County Clerk Postupack. “Their passion for sharing Native American history and heritage brings visitors from all over to participate in their activities. We are lucky to have such a wonderful group at the house.”
In addition to the activities, Grandmother Judith Laughing Owl will be exhibiting a series of Native American oil paintings. Judith is inspired by Native Americans she personally knows or has met on the PowWow trail, and by her involvement with the ANA. She is proud to keep Native American traditions, songs, and language alive. Her artwork will be available to view each Saturday in September.
